Henderson Design/Build has been a pillar in Northern Virginia Renovation for almost three decades. Many area neighborhoods have been touched by our founder William “Don” Henderson’s creative building vision.

After years of paying his dues learning construction while working as a carpenter, William “Don” Henderson started working with clients doing handyman repairs, storm doors and decks in 1980. The company started life as Henderson Construction Company. HCC grew and was incorporated in 1984. As the company grew Henderson took on larger complex projects. He earned a reputation in the area as a fair “cards on the table” straight talker.

In 1986, Don saw a need for a new approach to remodeling. He saw his clients stuck in long frustrating dialog with their architects. He sat waiting to build while his clients and their architects argued. The system was full of delays. He took the opportunity to consolidate the players required for residential remodeling and shift the experience from frustration to fruition. The company name Henderson Design/Build was adopted and he hired architects / designers and craftsman and placed them all under one roof.

His goal oriented philosophy created an effective approach to problem solving and creative design for residential remodeling. The company doubled in size over the next year. Henderson Design/Build outgrew its original offices. He foresaw the value of remodeling in the suburbs. The move to Arlington was determined by the purchase of a small duplex office building on Lee Highway in Arlington. The building’s roof came off, the dividing wall came down and a new design studio/company headquarters was made.
